About the event
Betye Saar spent a career proving that a thing somebody threw away is not finished being useful. Found objects, cast-offs, other people's discards — she turned them into work about identity, memory, and the stories objects carry once someone decides they're worth keeping. That idea followed us home from our first Art 'n About at the Palmer, and it's what this night is built on.
So: start clearing out your closets.
The first Makers Meet-Up is an Art Supply Swap and Donation. Collect the old paints, the brushes, the fabric, the canvas, the yarn, the skeins, the half-finished kit for the hobby you tried once — anything creative that's been sitting unused. Bring it. Take home whatever somebody else brought that you've been wanting to try. Anything not exchanged will be donated, so nothing you bring goes back in a closet.
Scraps and Skeins will be there to tell us…
