About the event
Join the Arboretum at Penn State and the Palmer Museum of Art for a hands-on, drop-in workshop celebrating the art and impact of sustainable mending.
Each year, millions of tons of textiles are incinerated or sent to landfills. Mending well-loved clothing—whether holey jeans or a torn shirt—is a practical, beautiful alternative to throwing garments away. During this informal session, participants are invited to bring items in need of repair and learn simple hand-stitching techniques. Sewing notions and guidance will be provided, and no prior stitching experience is required.
After stitching, extend your fashion focus with a visit to the Palmer Museum’s exhibition Who Wears the Pants?! Fashion History One Leg at a Time, which explores the cultural and historical stories woven into what we wear.
Free and open to all—come for a few minutes or stay the whole time.
